AN ORCHARD OF CITRUS FRUIT IN THE L’ERBOLARIO GARDEN

There is an exciting new initiative from L’Erbolario, called L’Orangerie, which is an “orange tree house”. But so much more as well. It is a splendid greenhouse where the beneficial rays of the sun and the splendor of the light nourish and fertilize a garden of orange, citron, lemon and mandarin trees, whose fresh, delightful fragrances form the basis of a new range of toiletries. A legend is in the making, because a citrus fruit orchard cannot fail to evoke the garden of the Hesperides, a place of prosperity which, in Greek mythology, belonged to the gods. In this splendid garden, surrounded by the waters of the ocean, the tree of life grew, its branches heavy with the golden apples, a source of eternal youth, guarded by the mythical maidens called the Hesperides. It was only much later on, during the Humanist period, that these “fabled” golden apples were classified as citrus fruits. The fruit, popular for both its fresh and delicately intense fragrance and for its delicious pulp and juice, considered precious enough to be guarded by the legendary Hesperides, in reality became the centerpiece of magnificent gardens, with orange, citron and lemon trees bewitching its beholders with the beauty of their flowers, fruit and leafy branches and the attractive contrast between their colors.
